DASH - GB ATM and POS Infrastructure upgrade

TL;DR
A Proposal to enable full Dash support (including InstantSend) on all GENERAL BYTES BATM and Point of Sale (POS) terminals in existence and future ATM and POS machines sold.

GENERAL BYTES Company Overview

GENERAL BYTES is a Bitcoin and blockchain based technology provider. We are currently best known for our range of cryptocurrency ATMs but also offer point of sale terminals and an array of blockchain based services. Some interesting data points on our company are:

  1. Original Manufacturer - GENERAL BYTES designs, manufactures and sells cryptocurrency ATMs since late 2013 and is currently the 2nd largest ATM brand worldwide according to coinatmradar.com
  2. Innovator - GENERAL BYTES was the first to introduce fingerprint readers, NFC cards for use on cryptocurrency ATMs, POS terminals and is home to many other innovations in the cryptocurrency ecosphere.
  3. Fast mover - In 2017 year GENERAL BYTES sold over 600 cryptocurrency ATMs and counting!
  4. Dash supporter - Our ATMs have been supporting cash-to-Dash transactions since Feb 2017 and most (if not all!) of the ATMs worldwide currently selling DASH have been manufactured by our company. Besides that, GENERAL BYTES is currently the largest Dash supporting ATM network worldwide but we think we can do even better!
  5. Complete solution - In addition to our range of ATMs we also offer Point of Sale Terminals (CortexPay) for a full-circle cryptocurrency implementations.
  6. Solid partner - We support our customers with frequent updates so they continue to operate while the ecosystem around them changes (new coins/coin forks/protocol updates/regulations). We also sponsor hacker congresses such as hcpp.cz and support new initiatives in the cryptocurrency industry.
Our core values as a company are truth, privacy and freedom and feel that those goals are very much aligned with the principals the Dash community adheres to and we would therefore propose the following.

Scope

We will make Dash a first class citizen on our cryptocurrency platform and enable full DASH support on all our products. This will help increase real-world Dash adoption as the InstantSend technology is really ideally suited for this type of application. (ATM and POS)

Deliverables

By making Dash a first class citizen on our platform we will deliver the following within the specified time-frame should this proposal be approved:

  1. Enable Dash-to-cash functionality on our two-way ATM models. (models: BATMThree and RCKit). Currently DASH is supported on the BATMTwo, BATMThree and RCKit models for the Cash-to-Dash exchange direction. (one-way ATM operation). Cryptocurrency-to-Cash support (two-way ATM operation) is currently only available for Bitcoin and Litecoin on the ATM models BATMThree and RCKit. Our proposal will enable Dash-to-cash functionality in the same way as implemented for Bitcoin and Litecoin on the BATMThree and RCKit models!
  2. We will add full support for Dash on our Point of sale terminal product, CortexPay. CortexPay currently supports Bitcoin and Litecoin only but this proposal will add Dash as the 3rd option to an already great POS product.
  3. Did we mention that all of the above mentioned new features will contain support for InstantSend? (Fantastic yes, we thought so too!)
  4. Implementing the features above will have added side effects (good ones!) like DASH support in the coin.cz blockchain explorer. (yeey! Another Dash block explorer!)
  5. Good stuff comes in small packages! We'll throw in support for DASH xpubs in our products so you can accept transactions directly into your Dash hardware wallet and we'll also make sure the NFC wallet cards dispensed by the BATMThree range of ATMs will also be working with the DASH cryptocurrency on ATMs and CortexPay point of sale system.
  6. GENERAL BYTES has sold over 800 ATMs, over 445 are listed as currently on-line on coinatmradar.com. We will make available a (free) downloadable update for all existing ATMs, effectively enabling full Dash support in all machines sold by us since 2013 and future ATMs sold by GENERAL BYTES. Please note that while we will make the update available, we can't force the operator to configure Dash on their ATM.
Schedule

We commit to have above mentioned implemented, tested and ready to be downloaded as software update before 1.1.2018 for all our existing cryptocurrency ATM owners plus will have these awesome new DASH features built in standard in any future ATMs shipped by GENERAL BYTES.

2017 Dec 1stDeliverables 2 and 4. Blockexplorer will be operational and Dash will be supported on the Cortexpay Point of sale terminals.
2018 Jan 1st: Deliverables 1 3 5 and 6. Support for 2-way Dash ATM support, InstantSend, Dash xpubs and NFC wallet cards and general availability and distribution of software upgrade.

Budget

We have calculated the total cost of this proposal to roughly 50 000 USD.
This will include two months of development by 2 developers, a third person to coordinate the development process, provide for properly testing of the final output and the preparation of tutorials and instruction videos to instruct ATM operators on how to enable the new Dash functionality in their ATMs and point of sale terminals.

Escrow

We have agreed to work with GreenCandle on this proposal and they will hold all funds in escrow and act on behalf of the Dash Network to ensure we deliver on our promises. We will be signing an official contract with GreenCandle that outlines the proposed scope of work and schedule as well as the delivery of the funding milestones.

Itemized Costs

Table 1 - Total Costs Requested

Developers35000USD2 full-time developers for two months
Coordinator8000USD1 Project lead / coordinator for two months
Testing5000USDTesting / debugging and creation of instr. videos
Maintenance2000USDReserved for unforeseen costs / future maintenance
Proposal Fee5DASHFee for registering this proposal on the Dash network
Total180DASH50.000 USD equals roughly 175 Dash (rate 2017-10-26)

Terms

We are requesting 3 monthly payments of 60 DASH to accomplish this. Funds will be held in Escrow by Green Candle Inc (greencandle.io) to ensure the Dash community that all deliverables are met. Given time and schedule of deliverables (deliverables Dec 1st / Jan 1st) we propose to split the ask in 3. Proposed dates are 2017-11-03, 2017-12-03, 2018-01-03.

Closing

Why support us?

  1. We always deliver on our promise. In many cases we overdeliver or manage to beat our own deadlines!
  2. Solid support on hardware platforms like BATM and Cortexpay will boost Dash adoption.
  3. A Boost for DASH support in already existing and deployed ATMs and Point of Sale Terminals.
  4. This is a real proposal that adds value to the entire Dash ecosystem, not just an individual.

Your itemized cost list seems to be buggy?

Can we also ensure a milestone is added for the two-way machines that they are adding support for selling into the DASHD hot wallet. Currently selling BTC and LTC go through their back end even if you host your own CAS server and appears to charge an additional fee and added delays to do so. Some testing found BTC did not always relay to the operator after a customer sold btc for cash.

@PhilaDASHia @generalbytes this sounds like the issue that we emailed you about last week (email subject SELL AMOUNT DIFFERENT BETWEEN SCREEN AND TICKET). You guys don't charge an addition fee BUT an additional fee IS charged. It just goes to the operator. From a customer perspective it's very negative because they get charged for more than they expected. Martin Lerche responded 4 days ago saying you're looking into it, no confirmation on when this will be resolved however....

Just read your message again and am a bit confused. GENERAL BYTES does not charge a fee on transactions from our clients with the exception of clients that prefer not to host their own server (less than 1%). In those cases we charge 0.5% of cash inserted for maintenance of the cloud hosting but primarily to motivate them to install their own server. We charge 0% on transactions on your own server.

Your ATM, your server, your wallets, your exchange accounts, your profit. Our business is a hardware infrastructure provider and make our money on selling the ATMs and design and manufacture these ourselves, write the software, support our clients, add new features, rinse and repeat.

We are makers and not traders. As such we do not touch client funds. We feel very strongly about the decentralized nature of our product and it is our opinion that the hardware architecture supporting cryptocurrencies (ATMs, POS, wallets, etc.) should be reflecting the decentralized nature of the cryptocurrency networks. This, we feel, is the only way for cryptocurrencies to survive long term, makes far more sense from a legal perspective (not to touch client funds) and reduces security risks dramatically.

I therefore think you might be confusing our products with one of our competitors (who do charge for support updates and rely on centralized servers) because we do not take a % of your transactions or 'relay' funds for our customers. :)

Selling from DASHD hotwallet is already supported since 2017-02. It is always the first implementation we do. Transactions run on your own server and we do not see operator transactions. Operators connect their own wallets, exchanges, rate tickers. "Some testing found BTC did not always relay to the operator after a customer sold btc for cash" sounds very strange to me but do open a ticket at support@generalbytes.com so we can have a look at it. I searched but could not find a related support ticket or a client named PhilaDASHia. Are you sure you are talking about a machine manufactured by GENERAL BYTES? We would not have a 25%+ market share with erroneous software like that. :)

Recently purchased a Dash branded GB ATM. Instant send would be a nice incentive for my customers to buy Dash. Easy yes here also.

I've heard that there is an issue with there being a 6 block confirmation delay when change is required before the ATM can sell more Dash. Is this a know issue? If so, will this be addressed with this update?

Hello nermoney. I've checked our support tickets and do not see any problems with confirmation delays. Maybe you are confused with the 0-confirmation withdrawal feature? You can set the number of confirmations required to a lower amount. For more information or to open a ticket: support@generalbytes.com will be able to guide you through.

Very affordable for what we are getting, easy Yes!

"GENERAL BYTES has sold over 800 ATMs, over 445 are listed as currently on-line on coinatmradar.com. Dash Force can help with this part. I can write up up a contest to make that happen.

this would be nice and something we can measure response. https://coinatmradar.com/charts/ lists 102 Dash ATMs. A successful campaign will help increase that number. We will promote the new integration in our customer channel newsletter anyway but a push from the community would be nice (to show demand.) Let's think of something and launch with a splash. It would be nice if we can get a list of operators that commit to supporting Dash so we increase the adoption counter.

There are a limited number of ATMs (7) in spain: https://coinatmradar.com/mapframe/?key=8de998b8caac246b48c1f037c82c84af9dfca567 but might be nice to approach them and see if they would be interested in carrying the Dash cryptocurrency once the deliverables are met and software distribution is done.

I´d love to have a working POS system for our work in germany, austria and switzerland. Just one question: who will be the one in charge for regulators like the BaFin in germany?
Reply
1 point,7 years ago
We make the ATMs and POS terminals but do not operate them. The owner / operator is responsible for being compliant with local regulations.

We acted as escrow for the https://dashcentral.org/p/dash-gap proposal which lead to https://greencandle.io/dash-gap

Green Candle Inc. Is a Canadian corporation formed by Jeff Smith (@coingun) and Jeremy Segal to act as escrow and sign contracts on behalf of the Dash Network with proposal holders it is working with to enhance the Dash Ecosystem.

The first successful escrow was the Dash GAP proposal. Last month after the Dash London conference one of our Directors travelled to Prague to meet with General Bytes and attempt to learn more about running events powered entirely by crypto. During this trip he was able to attend the #HCPP17 event that was powered by the GB POS and ATM stack. At this event only Bitcoin and Litecoin were accepted and it was our goal to leave see Dash added to this ecosystem and to colaberate with GB who has proved to be a very great candidate for helping with Dash adoption at the POS and ATM level.

Also who exactly is the owner of this budget proposal ?

"We have agreed to work with Green Candle on this proposal and they will hold all funds in escrow"

Yet owner of this budget proposal is also greencandle ?
Reply

Green Candle submitted the proposal, owns the address that the payouts are being made too, and will be signing the contract with GB that outlines the specifics and deliverables in this agreement. If and when GB passes each milestone Green Candle will update the community and then release funds to General Bytes.

thank you, it makes more sense to me now. you got my support

Correct. Green Candle Inc is the one guiding us through the proposal registration process and more importantly they will make sure we stick to the deliverables as outlined in the proposal. (escrow) This is a guarantee to the Dash community that funds will only be released once deliverables have been met.

I agree with Tao. Sounds reasonable. There's clearly value in funding this integration given the commitments made in the deliverables. The budget is well costed and seems fair with a reasonable timeline. I also like that an escrow through green candle has been arranged. Ticks all of the boxes. It's a yes from me.

Yes. We need more ways to turn cash into Dash, and Dash into cash, and Point Of Sale systems so people can turn Dash into T-shirts, or a new set of tires, or a new laptop. This is capable of doing all of those things. If we want a jillion merchants to take Dash directly and/or indirectly, we need effective point of sale tools.

AND, we have specific goals/benchmarks tied to the escrow service GreenCandle to insure we get what we paid for. Note that I am 99% sure Greencandle is not actually the owner of the proposal, but is listed as such because that's where the Dash will go if the proposal is approved. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the actual owner of the proposal is General Bytes ATM.

And the price is not silly for that amount of dev time and future support.

Lastly, I think we need to try out the GreenCandle escrow service to make sure that works as described. Assuming it does (and I have significant reasons to believe that it will) that becomes a very very powerful tool for reducing risk of non-performance by future Proposal winners.

I vote yes with both hands!

Sorry for the confusion. General Bytes put in the pre-proposal but after that data was all finalized Green Candle took over to deliver it to the network and make sure the network had sufficient communication and to ensure all things proceeded without any hiccups.
