Proposal description

Dash Core Group June Funding Proposals
DCG is submitting 2 funding proposals for the June 1st budget cycle:
1) DCG Compensation: $324,000 (multi-month proposal)
2) DCG Marketing and Travel: $64,000

This proposal
This proposal requests funding for communications, events and travel.  It is cross-posted here

Most Dash Core Group (“DCG”) marketing activity is performed with internal resources. This proposal requests funds to complement our internal resources and to assist us with executing certain planned actions. It also funds travel expenses for the whole Dash Core Group team. We are requesting funds for marketing and travel simultaneously because the two budgets were merged in 2018 to optimize resource allocation.

Communications
There are three types of media used to communicate:
  • Owned media, or the channels you fully control
  • Earned media, or the attention you get from third parties
  • Paid media, or those you pay to appear in

This proposal funds what we do with our owned media. Earned media is paid with the public relations proposals submitted to the network directly by PR firms. Currently we are not pursuing paid media due to budget limitations.

We operate and manage a myriad of social media channels and a website. Even though we don’t need to pay to appear in our own media, there are costs associated with these channels besides personnel hours. These are the initiatives we are requesting funding for:

  1. Website extension. We recently launched a new dash.org website. We are pleased with the result and we believe it is a significant improvement on the old version. However, it needs additional work. Currently, we don’t have front-end developers dedicated to this project at DCG, so we need to work with external resources to complete the work. Specifically, we need design work, improvements in our multilingual setup, creation of new pages for Dash use cases, ability to pull additional information from exchange APIs, and the ability to integrate the developer DAPI documentation (once that documentation is complete).
  2. Translations. We only translate our wallets and website (including the very complete docs.dash.org), but due to budget constraints, we had to cut on our plans last year and rely mostly on volunteers. With more available funds we would like to increase the number of languages we support and fill a few gaps.                                                                                                                                                                                                      Our current website is translated into fewer languages than the previous one, with important ones like Italian, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, Polish or Vietnamese still missing. Our wallets could use a big push to get back all languages to 100% translation status. Finally, there will be new documentation for Dash Platform soon and some of that will need to be translated.
  3. Videos. We want to produce a set of professional videos that explain what Dash is to different audiences. One will be a replacement for the old ‘What is Dash?’ video. In addition, we need 3-4 product videos that explain Dash features to people for particular relevant use cases: remittances, cannabis, trading, gaming, developers. We will be able to post the videos on our website and share them through our own channels and those managed by the community.
Events
  1. Developer focused events. In preparation for the release of Evolution, we need to start hosting events to attract developers to our ecosystem so a thriving Dapp ecosystem can be built. This includes meetups, virtual events, webinars, and hackathons.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            We plan to experiment with different formats, locations, and focus our efforts on the most effective events. Right now we are developing a target list of cities to start with because we believe that creating hubs makes sense to achieve density. In the meantime, we are hosting a few talks so we can start testing our value proposition and messaging. All these events are low cost and some even free, but we plan to be very active in this area.  All of this activity requires funding.
  2. Adoption workshops. Sustained usage of crypto is not easy to achieve. Despite our ongoing efforts to make Dash usable, there are numerous barriers that need to be overcome. One of those is education, so we are going to do a big push to educate very targeted audiences in real life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      In May we are launching a series of events to teach people how to send remittances with Dash from Spain to Venezuela, with the help of participating partners like Dash Latam and Bitnovo. Attendants will get their first remittance subsidized to make it more attractive to test. We would like to extend that series to other countries and partners as soon as we have this specific series rolling. We are also considering a few more use cases with other partners.
Travel
DCG has severely limited travel since 2018 due to budget constraints. The last proposal we submitted to fund travel was in November 2018 and we expected to use those funds during Q1. We spent virtually no funds for travel purposes in Q1 and are only now starting to use those funds during Q2. Some team members have actually paid for their own travel on occasion. Specifically, we are funding an internal developer workshop for around 15 people in Europe, we are sending a team of four to Consensus NY (the tickets were free because Ryan and Bob were requested to speak). Additionally, we are also doing some smaller conferences and internal meetings to coordinate our work.

If you have any questions, please direct them to @fernando at dashcentral to ensure we are notified of your request.

Requested funding is as follows for the June budget cycle:
· 565 Dash for marketing and travel ($64,000 USD @ $113.00 per Dash)
· 5 Dash proposal reimbursement
Total: 570 Dash

Note: Should any funding remain, we will apply it toward future marketing or travel expenses.
