Proposal description

Proposal on Dash.org    https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/continued-sponsorship-of-the-crypto-show-and-unsung-plus-cannabis-industry-marketing.14486/

Objective

The Crypto Show would like to extend its partnership with the Dash network by continuing a sponsorship for the show and the show’s involvement with the charity Unsung as well as helping the show to create relationships with the cannabis industry for Dash with our unique ability of on boarding new companies to Dash as we have demonstrated in the past.  The Crypto Show is the longest running FM program dealing with cryptocurrency news and discussion and its hosts and producers seek the network’s approval for a sponsorship package for the show.  The hosts of the show are even more dedicated to growing awareness and adoption of the DASH network and currency after getting to know the Dash dev team and community over the past 7 months.  The rise in interest in Dash has grown tremendously since the our initial sponsorship and we feel this is no accident and don’t want to see it end.  The show has interviewed most of the leading voices in crypto and other decentralized technologies, and feels that Dash is a great sponsor due to the features that set it apart from other projects in the space.  The team feels even more confident in presenting the reasons for the adoption of Dash to its crypto-minded audience. In addition, the Crypto Show has a successful track record of fundraising for charitable organizations and the show would like to continue to make Dash the lead sponsor for the its partnership with the organization Unsung Hacking Hunger in Austin, TX.

While we feel that Unsung is a great project and we will continue to do this, we feel we would serve Dash better if we are reaching merchants and users of crypto currency.  We see the writing on the wall concerning the Cannabis industry and its problem of being unbanked.   As we all know Bitcoin really got its value from things like the Silk Road and Satoshi Dice.  We want to retool and refocus what we're doing with Dash to reach directly to the medical Cannabis industry by traveling to dispensaries growers and other merchants in the industry  to meet face-to-face and bring them on board.  It won't be long before the banks stop shunning this industry  and we need to make an impact now. We need to let the Cannabis  industry know that we were there for them when the banks were not and hopefully they will show the same loyalty and stick with Dash when the banks do finally come around.  On this 4/20 we are on the ground in Denver meeting with these companies to talk to them about integrating Dash  as well as talking with the patrons to get them to set up wallets.  In the coming months we would like to continue this by traveling to other cities where cannabis is legal whether it be recreational or medicinal  and establish partnerships with these businesses.   We've already got a jump on this by bringing an online cannabis pharmacy on board called Cannasense which will be announced on 420 or sometime near that date.  This can absolutely be huge for the adoption rate for Dash.  For the past three years we've dedicated the month of April to reaching out to cannabis luminaries to come on the show and discuss the issues of legalizing cannabis. Going forward we would like to include cannabis more often in the show year around  to build a larger audience  of that demographic and reach new users of crypto currency by appealing to these audiences. The whole reason we at the crypto show even got involved with crypto currency was a political statement against the Federal Reserve and here is basically the same issue with cannabis.   Once again it's something we can probably make a difference with and we think this is a great direction  to increase adoption and value of Dash.  We have established a great relationship with the core team and have worked closely with Danial Diaz in helping to onboard several important business partners already.  We feel strongly that the Cannabis industry is a prime market to penetrate and have already established some key relationships within the industry.  This is an opportunity we don't want Dash to miss out on.

The 6 month proposal length allows for us to focus our efforts on individual states in the US where Cannabis is legal and to marshal the resources for traveling and organizing Dash centered events in those areas.  The longer proposal also allows us to demonstrate some of the features of Evolution to our business partners as the Alpha phase is released over the summer.

Background

The show continues to be a prominent voice in the crypto community and the team at the show believes strongly that highlighting Dash’s decentralized funding and governance model as the show would do, would continue to elevate Dash’s visibility and advantages in the space. This is something the show has strived to do on air and in interviews over the past 3 months.  The hosts Danny Sessoms and Chris Nenedal have cultivated quite a name and presence in the space. With experienced radio hosts at the helm and a spotless reputation in the community the guys at The Crypto Show have created a vast network of connections throughout the world of cryptocurrency (see sample guest list below).  The show airs twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays from 8-10pm, a total of 8 episodes a month.  Due to its regular time slot on an FM radio station, The Crypto Show is the most consistent radio and podcast content provider in crypto because of its set time each week.  The hosts have made it a point to mingle Dash into their interviews with leading Bitcoin gurus to help raise the profile of Dash in the minds of some of the leading people in the space.  The hosts of the show are very much still dedicated to growing awareness and adoption of the DASH network and currency.  After interviewing most of the leading voices in crypto and other decentralized technologies, the show feels that Dash has been a great sponsor due to the features that set it apart from other projects in the space. Our website with the Dash banner proudly displayed: https://thecryptoshow.com/

Public Relations

The Dash protocol has tremendous vision and we at the show feel that vision has not been communicated to the wider crypto scene effectively. Unfortunately there is still a reputation haunting Dash that the show would like to help eliminate. Talk of instamines and scams still plague the Dash project and the show would like to help remake Dash’s image by presenting some of the revolutionary aspects of the protocol to the leading names in the space.  A major hurdle for bitcoin has always been the negative press of scams or hacks.  But we have found that showing the ability for a coin to support charities in a decentralized way like the efforts of Bitgive, Sean's Outpost, FreeAid and others is tremendously valuable PR to the public and also helps a lot of people.  The show has helped dozens of charities with its work, even helping to raise over $12,000 for Ross Ulbricht's defense fund in a series of fundraisers it conducted.  We would like to bring this kind of charitable attention to Dash.  The sponsorship would also include an increase to 30% of the Dash going towards our partnership with Unsung Hacking Hunger in Austin, TX.  Please see some of the ways Dash has helped change peoples lives here in Austin.  https://thecryptoshow.com/unsungdash-charitywork/
The most read article on bitcoin.com  is about the Crypto Show’s partnership with Unsung that Dash has already helped sustain. Read it https://news.bitcoin.com/unsung-arcade-city-1000-meals/
Unsung is the brain child of popular cryptocurrency activist and philanthropist Jason King. Unsung.org is an application that feeds the hungry by delivering unwanted food from local caterers and restaurant and rewards its drivers with bitcoin. The Crypto Show helped make Unsung a reality by creating a partnership with another decentralized organization here in Austin, Arcade City. Both organizations give credit to the show for making this effort come to life.  An article detailing this partnership even made the front page of Reddit with over 210,000 views. The show has also played a big part in helping the decentralized Uber, Arcade City, get off the ground leading to worldwide attention.                “The Crypto Show has been instrumental in advancing Arcade City in Austin and globally.  Connections they made for us turned into two of our most important strategic relationships: Airbitz for Bitcoin payments and security, and Unsung.org for connecting our drivers with a social mission of feeding the homeless. Their radio PSAs and well-done interviews are the cherries on top. We’ll always be happy to partner with The Crypto Show.” - ChristopherDavid, CEO of Arcade City

"The Crypto Show has been fantastic in establishing The Austin chapter of Unsung and it is amazing. The amount of good they have been able to do on a very limited budget is astounding. Well over a thousand meals fed in a very short period of time. A real asset to the Unsung community."  - Jason King, Founder of Sean's Outpost and Unsung   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-TdZsCb6zM&feature=youtu.be
"I have worked with the Crypto Show in advertising the Texas Bitcoin Conference and other events.  His promotion was the most effective of all we used.  The Crypto show has shown a level of consistency and quality that has proved to be effective in promoting Bitcoin, Conferences, and businesses.  Additionally, they have provided great guests, information, and entertainment."  - Paul Snow, Chief Architect at Factom, Organizer of the Texas Bitcoin Conference

Budget

The show would ask for a 119 dash a month for a period of 6 months, a reduction from last period.  We would split the budget as follows:
50% - The Show Sponsorship (59.5 Dash/mo.)
20% - The Unsung Charity (23.8 Dash/mo.)
30% - Cannabis focused PR and travel (35.7 Dash/mo.)

This is a tremendous value for the price.

This quarter of the sponsorship will help offset the cost of trips to Cannabis events and to conduct Cannabis industry outreach.  The additional quarter of the budget will continue to provide for the needs of Unsung. The rest would continue to help pay for our studio space, our costs for production and our ability to travel for remote events for interviews.  It would provide enough investment to fill the much needed gaps in Unsung’s budget and would directly purchase foodstuffs for the homeless community that Unsung serves. The show would also like to continue to give Dash away to leaders in the crypto space and have them set up wallets to help put Dash into the hands of influential people. We have already given out some Dash and you can see some of their quotes above.   What better platform to distribute the currency and introduce newcomers then one of the most popular and entertaining shows out there? And what better way to help remake the image of Dash but by using it to fund a charity that has received worldwide press?

Achievements and Objectives

We believe that the Dash project has seen an increase in adoption, investment and awareness by funding the past sponsorship. We have been faithful to committing a 5-10 minute segment called "Dash in the News" in which the hosts and guests talk Dash. The show has served as a destination for the community to hear about the latest developments first hand from some of the project developers like Evan Duffield and Andy Freer and from leading business marketers like Daniel Diaz, Ryan Taylor and Amanda B. Johnson, all of whom have been guests in the past.  We have the Dash banner prominently displayed at the top of our website.  We have open up several wallets and distributed Dash at the local bitcoin meetups.  We have secured positive public statements from leading crypto people like Roger Ver.  Dash is still in need of of an image makeover. This has already started to take shape in some of the ways.  Its main websites have created more stylish appearances and attracted more attention from Users. The shift from Darkcoin to Dash and Darksend to Privatesend are all examples of this shift. We would like to continue this makeover by highlighting the technology behind these names and all the different projects committed to building out that technology. We feel we can continue to play a big role in helping manage and promote this makeover. The show has made it a point to dedicate 5 minutes each week to reading the latest Dash news and the discussing some of that with our guests.  We feel like we bring an opportunity with the Unsung sponsorship to also help communicate the generous and problem-solving nature to Dash’s community. Dash is known for solving problems that plague other cryptocurrencies (i.e. block size, governance) so having Dash sponsor a problem solving effort of hunger seems like a natural fit and one that can really help Dash’s image. The show is downloaded and attracts the greatest amount of attention from people already involved in crypto-currency and therefore we can help persuade people already invested to look at Dash as a possible investment. Dash needs to target people who are already invested or who want to invest in the space. Its market cap is below projects with less development and less features and we feel we can help close that gap.  We hope that we can effectively address the needs facing Dash right now, i.e. an increased awareness of the networks advantages over other forms of crypto, like decentralized governance, masternode dividends, 2.5 second transaction speeds and its treasury model.  All of these key features make Dash one of the most exciting projects in the industry.   We would like Dash to be free of scandal or a bad reputation and for people to discuss and debate and judge the currency based on its merits alone.

Sponsorship Package
If the network decided that this was worth funding Dash would receive an official sponsorship that includes:
- live reads on air of our “Dash in the News”
- a banner on our site. https://thecryptoshow.com- close attention to reporting and curating all Dash news for our audience giving it special attention for the purposes of advertising to our crypto minded audience.
- Free PSA announcements and commercials advertising the Unsung sponsorship by DASH during show
- Special attention to Cannabis companies that choose to adopt Dash as a payment platform
- Mention of sponsorship in future media coverage of Unsung: Hacking Hunger
-The satisfaction of knowing the Dash community helped feed thousands of homeless people in Austin, TX
ScheduleThe sponsorship would last for another period of 6 months starting May 4th and ending on Oct  4th, 2017. If the network appreciates the effort we have made and feels it is worth funding in the future than we would present a proposal in the future.

Regards,
The Crypto Show Team

you have my votes, but only because I believe that you can still grow as show, otherwise i find the price to high.

For starters I would like to ask you to invest into a better camera in the studio, the youtube video's are very low quality( I understand it more of radioshow, but if you put it up on youtube you kinda have to)

Thanks for the input. We're capturing Facebook live videos so it reaches both platforms. FB LIVE is a pretty good tool for reaching new territory as we share it across multiple group pages.

I want to thank all of MN's that supported us and to the rest we hope to earn your support in the Future.
To kick this off I'm delivering a General Bytes machine to "Ink It Over" a computer on the green mile in Denver. I'll be getting a Dispensery on board as well while I'm there. From there I'll be travelling to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Oakland, San Francisco then Oregon and Washington with a goal of 1 dispensery for each city. I may not land one in every city but at least I'll be laying the groundwork to do so in the future. I'll be doing this in my Rv with Dash logos on it. Stay tuned I plan on over delivering on this proposal.

people - think about the price twice.

119 DASH (8616 USD) for 6 months which totals in 51,696 USD

That is way above any reasonable mount for the reception of the Crypto Show.
My recommendation is to downvote this proposal and wait for a new one with a more realistic price over 3 months.

I agree the price is not close to a good value. I'd like to see some results from money already awarded to this owner before dumping more money his way.

I can appreciate what you're saying but in reality the majority will be spent on travel each month to do our best to bring a new city onboard in the cannabis industry. I can guarantee you that I go over and above whats expected and I'm sure if you ask some of the dev team they will confirm that. The percentages and where they go to are really moot because I'm quite sure more than 30% will go to travel. There's a ton of networking I'll need to do before hitting each city. If I'm successful in bringing 3 cities onboard your numbers will likely be quite low as the Dash price will rise.

If your proposal gets renewed and I believe it will. I hope you guys give a lot of publicity to the "Alt36 + Dash Payment Platform" proposal that just passed. There are so many great things happening with Dash but they just don't get any publicity and the declining price is evidence of that.

I've sent a message to Ken at alt36 already we would love have him on. I see our proposals working well together. It won't do us any good to have cool features if no one is using them. The tactic we want to use is to be on the ground and meet with the Dispensary face to face to bring them on board.

Just to bring some background with regards to this industry. 1. The Feds say cannabis is very illegal and that it has ZERO legitimate medical use. 2. The Feds applied for and received a patent for the medical use of cannabinoids (components in marijuana). See the hypocrisy? 3. In reality, there are dozens of potential medical uses of cannabis. I challenge you to go watch this 11 minute video about a 6 year old epileptic named Charlotte, and then think about how many Billions of dollars medical marijuana is going to generate. Shouldn't Dash be involved in this early on? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9qkYLtAhSQ http://www.denverpost.com/2016/08/28/what-is-marijuana-patent-6630507/

Thanks for your support. You're absolutely right. Just look at what just happened in Pueblo Colorado, they just paid for full scholarships to college to students with good grades all paid for by Cannabis tax excesses because they had too much money.

My progress for Denver was a computer shop next too a Starbuds and within walking distance of multiple other dispensaries. The shop wants a Dash ATM. I have a guy in Dallas with a Genaral Bytes machine who can install that one but also I made contact and set up meeting for this Tuesday to discuss a Dash Point of Sale and a Dash ATM for a Dispensary called "The Oasis" on Evans Ave.
This is what I hope to recreate each month in a new state over the next 6 months. The meeting with the Dispensary is a result of leg work before ever even going there. Having the right people make the introduction helps to get you past the "Budtenders". The radio gig definitely helps to make the sale on this because I'm able tell these shop owners that we'll be sending people to their way just to use their Dash.
I think if I'm successful in even 3 states I believe the value Dash would increase well beyond our expenses.

I think the negative votes you got might be due to the font size, because all the comments are good and the proposal seems to me to be something we like to sponsor. Its certainly well thought through, energetic, and will give us exposure. Lots of us, including me, are nervous of investing in the canabis industry, but this is different, its marketing to the industry to tell them about us. I am voting yes.

Note that this proposal is less than 2% of this month's budget. One should ask if we will get more return from this exposure, than we would by just burning that <2% of the budget. I voted yes and would encourage others to do the same. And hey, they're Dash people, not some new outside people with no history or relationship with us, who thought they could make a quick buck.

Hmmm, with the price of Dash steadily declining is this really the right time to not fund this marketing effort? I guess common sense is not always that common.

Congrats on the forthcoming Cannasense integration -- that's fantastic.

I'd love to see more cannabis outreach on its own -- I believe Dash presence on both The Crypto Show and Unsung is completely saturated at this point. For that reason, I'll be voting 'no.'

But if you were ever to put in a proposal to do some cannabis-industry outreach on its own, I'd vote yes. I respect your work, Danny, and I think you'd be very valuable bringing on more businesses just like you did Cannasense.

Thanks for the feedback. Well its partnerships like Cannasense that we would continue to make happen if approved. We feel that the show is integral to creating the kind of synthesis needed to make these marketing strategies work. We can offer companies to promote their services and put them on the crypto map when they decide to choose Dash. We may entertain a separate proposal but its not cheap to do. We feel like the package makes the most sense. But thanks again.

i like what ur doing, i think cannabis and crypto are a hugh opp. I would like more info on how the money is spent. this is pretty expensive based on ur audience reach. most podcast videos have around 300 views... the cost/reach is getting to be pretty skewed.

Thanks man. So we will be using the 30% of the proposal to travel to Marijuana hot spots for face to face meetings and attend conferences to make Dash the crypto of choice for dispensaries and different online shops like seed sellers, etc. In fact that's what I'm doing right now in Denver on my own dime. Part of the reason I haven't gotten to respond. Sorry for that. I have one dispensary verbally committed to an ATM and accepting Dash. I have a connection to a entrepreneur who operates 9 stores. He takes my meeting on Tuesday to discuss an ATM and Dash backend stuff. Pretty exciting. I will be posting to reddit soon to see my travel pics.

We timed it with the what was going to be the planned announcement from Cannasense on 420 about them taking Dash. They were a company that we brought to the dev team thru our connections. The announcement wasn't made but I have confirmation from Daniel Diaz that they are ready to go and all the backend stuff has been worked out. So look for an announcement soon.

Monthly amount: 119 DASH (8542 USD) for 300 viewers - the outreach of this proposal is extremely low but the price fairly high

When they started their proposals it was much cheaper:

2016-09-07 197Đ (1Đ eq. $11) ~ $2167
2017-01-10 137Đ (1Đ eq. $12.4) ~ $1699
2017-02-24 147Đ (1Đ eq. $26.6) ~ $3910
today 119Đ (1Đ eq. $72) ~ $8542

I think the content is ok. But the price/value relation went out of all limits. For comparison: Dash Detailed has ten times the number of viewers and costs only slightly more.

I'm sure where you're getting 300 viewers from. Our last episode on SoundCloud is sitting at 4850 plays with 10k for the last 7 days , 44.1k plays for the last 30 days and 586k plays over all, 302,206 in the US alone.
That's just the SoundCloud numbers. The YouTube we just recently started posting there with any frequency.

I totally understand with the price increase. The proposal is for 6 months and we don't know if the price will hold completely given some macro trends. So that's part of the reason. We did drop the number of Dash by close to 20% from our last proposal. And we added and advertising campaign that we are embarking on on top of what we already deliver. So if you factor that in we actually cut our Dash request by 50%. This is close to the actual budget of the other proposals. Most of the extra cost is dedicated to trying to make Dash the crypto of choice for the online and physical marijuana stores in the 28 states that have medical and the 8 with recreational or quasi recreational status. I'm already on the ground in Denver taking meetings with some of the shops. Will update with progress and pics.

They do get extra viewership from podcast subscribers via https://letstalkbitcoin.com/ and direct streams from http://www.logosradionetwork.com/. Not sure how that can be quantified, but it's worth noting. How the extra funds would be used in particular seems a valid question.
Reply
0 points,7 years ago
Well, we are also getting the cannabis-focused outreach for which they have to travel. But yeah overall they are still getting paid more for the same.
Though i still think it is worth it.
Reply
1 point,7 years ago
Yes the pay is higher but I have to say there's an incredible amount of time going into making these connections it's literally a full-time job. Constantly reaching out to people all over the place to try to get something going.
Today was less fruitful than I had hoped in some in some aspects as far as reaching customers but I definitely have a solid meeting set up Tuesday for a dispensary to host an ATM and integrate Dash for payment of product.
