Proposal description

Crazy idea of the day folks.  With the recent run up in price, we can buy pizza for every single solitary ASU student the day of the March 30 open house.  We can contact every pizza place within a 10 mile radius, they will ALL want to participate.  Who needs to spend 10,000 BTC on a pizza when we have Dash!  Let's go!

Discussion: Should we fund this proposal?

i think there are better ways to spend 500 dash in ASU... voting no

I think this is a bad investment, I would much rather see 20% off pizza (or books ect.) if you use Dash or something that gets people useing the Dash rather than being given a free handout.

i think i saw coingun suggest putting a dash qr code sticker on the pizza boxes and have free dash on them. that would get a lot of dash wallets created and new users. i like that idea and would further suggest putting a larger sum on every say 10 boxes like a grand prize.
i would try this again for next month as i'm sure there will be plenty of unspent funds to go around. plan it out better and maybe 10k in pizza and prizes, 23k is too much logistically and price wise IMO.
overall great idea though.

I actually like this!

It is a lot of money, but well managed it can be a big publicity stunt. I trust Oaxaca to pull it off and provide details later, but this can only be done if we vote yes now. It has been last minute and that is how things are. It can't wait to another month because then maybe there would be other competing proposals. I'm sure that with a month to prepare there will be time to work out the mechanics.

I'm all for publicity stunts, but they need to be better planned than this. Sorry, but I'm voting no.

How will free pizza help dash? 500 DASH worth of pizza at that...

Worldwide press, local TV, thousands of social media hugging students talking about Dash?

Better to burn the pizza than burn the Dash. Think of the publicity and having EVERYBODY on campus talking about Dash. Then they all hit social media and bam.

how do you propose to organize this?

There are a LOT of people who will be at the event from this community, all of them ready and willing to help.

There is already an open house scheduled for the 30th. The team has already announced pizza on the flyer which has been posted everywhere. Quite frankly, what's the problem?

well... from someone who used to organize big events I can tell you it's not that simple. 18K worth of pizza... I can only imagine... you would need to contact the pizzerias as tell them that they could ONLY make pizza for you, otherwise they just wouldn't be able to supply that much.

I think Pizza for the event is great, but handing out free pizza to all ASU students randomly is possibly not going to be as effective as you think. I.E. Students will eat the free pizza but won't really care who bought it. This is standard student behaviour.

----

As an alternative, how about we spend the 500 Dash to set up a fully stocked-up, well labelled and well positioned (on campus) Dash soda machine that dispenses ice cold soda all year round.

Maybe an intriguing idea could be that it auto-credits, flashes a light and makes a 'Dash' sound at some random interval every 60 minutes. After that students can try their luck by pressing the dispense soda button and a free soda comes out. Or they can pay with dash and receive a soda at-cost. Community members could also donate to an address which would make it rain free sodas until the credit is used up.

The side of the machine would explain what Dash is, how to install a Dash wallet on your phone, and where you can get Dash. Maybe even display a price ticker that shows current Dash price in USD.

This could potentially be a BIG publicity stunt. We could be on the news which in turn would give a lot of exposure for Dash.

I'm going to vote no. BUT, this is a great idea. We should someday have a proposal to fund something other than Dash development. I remember when a DOGE contributor accidentally funded the Jamaican bobsleigh team to the 2014 Winter Olympics. Made big news headlines. Maybe we can use some of Dash's good fortune to make the world a better place.

Have to start somewhere, don't we?

make a better plan. coordinate the pizza shops to accept DASH and reimburse every student for one slice if the bought it.
Maybe the organisation will be more expensive than the pizza slices

Well guys, I don't think 18000 worth of pizza is possible. That's ~8000 slices, or 1000 pies. There is no way in hell all pizzerias could support that volume. The coordination alone would be almost impossible. For me to even think about voting yes on this proposal I would need some amazing write up. Right now I feel more that the proposal was written when someone was high eating pizza :P
