Voted NO. I take issue with Dash paying for development not exclusive to Dash (yes...arguments either way here as per this thread)

That's what I'm talking about!! Dash-funded open-source development. Instant yes.

OPEN SOURCE means no advantage for Dash vs other cryptocurrencies who already look to Dash to C&P.

I find it problematic that Dash pays for a product that everyone can just take and copy in the end. An employer does not hire an engineer for 100k a year to design a car and then give out the blueprints to everyone for free either. This website does not *have* to be opensourced, because no trustlessness is required for it to run like a blockchain handing people's money. Can you please speak to that?

MNO, Sydney, Australia. I agree. Dash is paying for solutions others can simply copy and paste. I have an issue with this too for the same obvious reasons.

Hi Macrochip and thanks for asking this question.

Can you name the disadvantages of other projects copying the project? I can only think of positive sides about open sourcing the code:

1) Even if other projects copy the project they might end up contributing improvements to our code
2) If it becomes popular then more people are likely find out that it was funded by the Dash DAO, which could give them a positive impression of Dash.
3) If we want to hire more people in the future, then it will be easier to do so especially if the applicant is already contributing.

Thanks for the reply.

The disadvantage is easily explained: You're helping the competition and have Dash pay for it.

People do not realize the value of something that is given to them for free, so the positive publicity towards Dash that you've mentioned is purely imaginary. The end product is available to all and nobody cares whether it was paid for by Dash or not. If it's up for grabs, it's being taken, no gratitude whatsoever. That's just a fact of life.

Now if it was to be opensourced at a later date with much publicity about it and pushing Dash as the financer on top of every headline? That I could live with.

I understand your concern but I still think that the pros outweigh the cons. In my opinion it isn't necessarily bad for Dash if other coins benefit from the project because it's not like this website is a a major competitive advantage.

Your SSL certificate seems to be expired. Also, the charts page is almost unreadable with the dark grey background.

But other than that, it looks pretty good.

In the recent update I made some visual improvements to the charts page based on your feedback: https://dashradar.com/charts

Thank you for the notification and feedback. I just renewed the certificate and I think you are right about the background color issue.

Will the code become opensource ?

Yes (it's written in bold in the proposal). I will do some code refactoring first to make it more readable and easier to maintain. I will publish the code in GitHub most likely in February but no later than March.

HI Antii. Good luck with the project. Is it written in c++?

Thanks mshepstone! It's written mostly in TypeScript using Angular. One component that imports data from the Dash Core client to the neo4j graph database is written in Java.
