DashCam is conceding the vote and asking for No votes as we seek private investment.  We have heard the voter's concerns and are considering the needs of the network.  We will still keep the DashCam brand because of its strength.  We are still accepting donations as we move to our next phase, fleshing out the website.

Update June 6, 2020

Paola Hernandez had some personal health issues and took a job in retail, currently, DashCam is recruiting a replacment, Dash Mall & Parking is assisting in our search for an Instagram model manager in VE market.  Terms of Service for the site are being reviewed according to US Regulations, as DashCam is incororporated in Ohio, USA, we have US Rev Codes to work with.  We are shooting for a target date of July 31st to begin model signup.  Jhoan is working on graphics for the website and I'd like to thank @RealMrHack with assisting DashCam in integration of crypto rails and providing a crypto-Dash exchang option to keep DashCam assets in Dash.

DashCam value proposition to the network

DashCam's model is based on securing webcam performers that will accept payment directly in Dash. We are focusing early efforts recruiting in Venezuela, as we already have adoption there and Dash makes a great remittance option even in areas of the country where Dash does not have merchants in place. This put Dash directly into the VE market on the labor end, which will help merchant adoption efforts on the ground.

DashCam will have dual fiat and crypto payment options, but all tip credits for performers will be denominated in Dash. Since we are specifically targeting crypto users, not fiat customers, either the customer will convert to Dash to buy credits, or if they choose not to, DashCam will convert all crypto collected into Dash. Fiat will be converted to Dash ex fiat operating expenses for DashCam.

DashCam will be a net buyer of Dash in the market. 2/3 of team compensation will be paid to our team in VE. If DashCam can successfully connect crypto users with webcam performers, the revenue model will support sustained recruitment and promotion for future growth.

How it all began

The idea for DashCam came to me when team member Paola Hernandez (@Paolita) came into Dash Talk Discord chat asking if she could post her link to onlyfans in our classifieds channel. She has already received tips for her webcam sessions in both ETH and BTC and she lives east of Caracas in a coastal area. The basic concept is to create a webcam site that connects webcam performers to crypto geeks, and have the platform concentrate its efforts toward creating a Dash micro economy.

How DashCam works and makes a profit

To that end, webcam credits (which can be used to tip performers or buy site merchandise) will be fixed price in Dash. Other payment options will be available, both fiat and crypto, but those other options will not get the rate advantage that paying for credits in Dash does.

Specifically, to set our margins for profit, credits will be fixed as such:Elite package
  • 1 Dash = 1337 credits (we are looking at lips, since it is in our logo)
  • 0.1Dash – 100 credits
Our margins are then set by this Elite package and all performers will be paid in Dash only at the Elite (1337) package rate. Payments will be accepted in fiat and other cryptos supported by GoCoin but will be converted to Dash, so the revenue model has DashCam become a net buyer of Dash. Our margin to operate is fixed by the Elite package, since most users will not be buying credits 1 Dash at a time.

Progress made

3 months of basic adult hosting has been secured during this development phase of the project, with our first priority being signups of webcam performers to the site prior to launch of the main site. We will need to offer some signup bonus to attract webcam performers to DashCam from sites they are already earning money on. It should not be too high a cost, as most webcam performers are used to using more than one site. We are focusing our recruitment efforts in Venezuela, with team members Paola & Jhoan already starting to spread the word. The plan is to offer 1 Dash sign up bonus for each performer that gets unlocked once they have completed 4 cam sessions along with the earnings they normally get from a session. Paola typically earns $15-50 per session, after cam sites take their cut, so that gives us a metric for revenue expectation.

During the signup phase, our goal is to sign 20 performers so that there is already a sufficient pool of performers to draw in users and create a sustainable revenue stream. Toward that end, we are seeking recruitment funds as part of our budget request.
We expect to go to full launch in 90 days and will require funds to advertise the site on both adult websites and on crypto websites (where allowed by the ToS). Most of the cam performers we will sign up will already have some following of their own that is willing to follow them to a new website. But we need to provide performers new customers as well, so in the 3rd month of the project, we would like to budget $2000 toward banner ads at pay per click rates.

The breakdown of team roles is as follows:
  • Paola Hernandez (@Paolita)- Paola knows the industry from the inside and has reach among other performers, her duties will be to promote DashCam on both her personal Instagram as well as to help launch an Instagram for DashCam.
  • Jhoan Brito Gomez (@O-Z-A-R-K) - Jhoan designed the logo for DashCam and will be doing graphic design for the website as well as for the banner ads we will be using. He also has reach on Instagram and has offered to help Paola with the work there.
  • Michael Veloff (@agnewpickens) – I am the general manager of the project, I have been coordinating all efforts setting up the website and will be the paymaster as well as chief marketing strategist, basically do everything not covered under specific team roles.
Webmaster
Jason Eagleston – RichlandPC, a Discover Dash merchant that I have worked with for my personal computing needs, he also runs a hosting service, unfortunately his agreement with AWS did not allow him to pick up the adult hosting for the project. He is not listed with the rest of the team because he is not going to be a salaried employee, his fee for setting up and managing the website will be $1500 for one year.

Conclusion with updates

Domains have been secured, hosting has been secured, Jason is ready to break ground on the website and our team is ready to begin outreach. We expect to begin generating revenue as soon as Jason gets the Pay-Per-View Video Streaming module integrated fully.

Update: May 1st

An LLC has been filed in the state of Ohio, United States for Burnt Hamster Publishing DBA DashCam and should get its Tax ID number by the end of May. Opening fiat gateways in the adult entertainment industry comes with its own peculiar set of obstacles.

In the mean time, Dash is proving to be the most reliable way to remit payments for labor done by my team in Venezuela, PayPal works but charges me at least 6% fee to send USD there.

Our budget needs:
$1500/mo team compensation or $4500/total
$1500/total webmaster
$1600/total recruitment
$2000/3rd cycle and beyond promotion and ads

We are not seeking reimbursement of funds already sunk into the project, we are only looking for sufficient funding to launch. As there is no revenue stream yet, we will not be budgeting another $5000 just for legal costs to offer the DIF a stake, but will consider doing so if we should return to the Treasury later after we are generating a revenue stream.

Update May 5th, 2020

We are extending our ask to four cycles. Working on the project has uncovered some unique obstacles, which we are navigating as a team, but a Tax ID may not be secured by May 28th to secure payment rails, that will require and extra $1500 in team compensation and an additional $2000 for advertising and promotion.

Note: Tax ID for DashCam was issued on May 4th, we are ready to KYC for our gateways

Total funding request over 4 cycles: $13100.
$13100/4 = $3275/cycle
Request 41 Dash/cycle at $80 USD

We are not requesting reimbursement of proposal fee as DashCam is still receiving donations from the community.

Any extra funding will be rolled over and/or put into further promotional efforts for DashCam.

I don't think we have seen this type of proposal before. Some may have reservations because of the nature of the business. If that is you, you should step back and look at this in the larger context. Some people have very few other options to make money, for example in Venezuela. Given the very limited options, this option makes them the safest and gives them the most control over their situation. Furthermore, these folks are typically marginalized and have limited banking options. Isn't that kind of the mission of Dash?

My personal assessment is that this has a good chance of becoming self sustaining and growing adoption organically. So to summarize, Agnew is a very long term member of the Dash community. It's a new model and worth trying. It is very likely to become self sustaining and gain real/new adoption in a few months. This gives short term help to people that really need help because the money and economy are so screwed up. And if the DIF funding prop doesn't fit, this absolutely does.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, not looking like I will make it this cycle, budget was pretty tight coming in, and there are props that are passing that won't get into funding.

Good job, y'all, no last minute vote flipping, that is good news, DashCam still working on a launch, donations still welcome to get us to launch sooner, have not separated out the DashCam static address yet to another machine, so still mixing going on, but this is the static donation address for anybody that wants to see the launch sooner rather than later:

Just doing a little post mortem on my proposal using Dash Watch, I have heard the concerns about using Dash brand, but to be honest, the term dashcam is stronger than the Dash as a widely searched term, so that will not be changing. Period. I am disappointed that we did not get funding, but the show will go on, currently looking for private investment both within and outside the Dash network, I have hungry people in Venezuela I am still feeding on my own and this is just a bump in the road. The brand stays. I want to thank all the yes voters, and MNO watch shows that I have more individual yes voters than no voters, so I take that away as a positive. I will wait until the results are final to post a donation link, but if you are in the mood, you can visit #dashcam channel in Dash Talk and support our ongoing efforts in Latam. Thank you all for your time, it was worth burning 5 Dash for the feedback, important market feedback.

"I have hungry people in Venezuela I am still feeding on my own"

Seeing this is the case, I think it would be better for them and your efforts to support them if you were to wholeheartedly throw your weight and support behind the teams in Venezuela that are currently active.

By supporting their strong efforts instead, the people that you're feeding will eventually gain access to Dash directly much more quickly via the "six-degrees-of-separation" effect. I.e., the more people in Venezuela we give Dash to, the sooner the people you're supporting will get their hands on it and also have a place to spend it. Thus increasing our velocity, transactionality and use-case while also supporting those that you're currently working with, so win-win.

Since those teams have been active for a couple years, and I've recently heard rumblings that they are also looking to expand their operations to other portions of Venezuela that they have heretofore not had funding to expand in, it'll probably be faster to help those individuals whom rely on your aid now to increase the number of teams and the current teams' asks per cycle.

This way, mass-adoption will happen more quickly due to their considerable first-mover advantage over your current operation in taking advantage of the six-degrees of seperation effect throughout their already exploding communities. Thanks for the proposal and I look forward to your support for their new efforts!

I liked this proposal and voted yes. For me it is not like a "wow this needs to be funded", but more of a "I hope this passes to see if the model succeeds".

Thanks, I would like to know if the model will work as well, startups are risky, why I kept the ask to minimum, if early tests fail, why pump more Dash into the project?

I have a labor pool I can tap here in Ohio, my friend Tommy owns two juice bars that had dancers in SE Ohio and I am in talks with him, we had talked about bringing Dash to his clubs a while ago, before my cousin passed, who was his bouncer, you can look the clubs up, the Foxhole and Foxhole South in Newcastle and Zanesville OH. I still want to to focus on the revenue model during this phase and make sure that is working before I scale the system

His club made national headlines when his dancers did counterprotests against a local church that was picketing them.

His clubs are under lockdown for Covid-19, I have already let him know that DashCam is under construction and we are in talks.

Are you kidding? We need to stop with this amateur hour. Spending to launch an adult Webcam site from the ground up focused on a niche market, sounds like a terrible idea. Why should performers switch to a new, cheap site with no users, and why should users switch to a site with no performers? Dropping $2000 on banner ads is not going to turn this into a success. Other major established adult Webcam sites already accept crypto deposits. This is not likely to be a successful business venture even if we were to spend 100 times as much on it, and I'm not convinced that you and your team know what you're doing. It would be a way more efficient use of funds to drive integrations with existing, established businesses, than trying to roll our own.

My biggest concern is not the profit margin, my biggest concern is actually how to scale to meet demand if we get too many performers, I will need to automate payouts and hire more staff.
Reply
-1 point,4 years ago
Niche is the perfect approach for this market, the high traffic sites also mean competition for attention for the performers, competition for favors for the users, TMDHosting has a lot of these niche websites in the adult entertainment industry. Just because you don't hear about the hundreds, maybe thousands of other cam sites, doesn't mean they aren't making a profit, there is a susbstantial margin with very low overhead costs in this industry.

The idea may be of some value, I however have concerns around the brand.

I think it may be phenomenal to have a business thats in an industry that is growing offer the ability for people earn dash across the globe.

However I am vehemently against using anything related to 'Dash' because it draws an inference that it may be a 'dash group of companies' among other concerns.

If the PO where to consider changing the branding I would love to see this proposal come to fruition and support it.

Good luck voting NO for now

As far as our logo, we can rework it so it later doesn't use the official Dash logo, but we are trying to capture a user base in the sector. Our launch logo is already set, the domains have been bought.

I respect Agnew and generally like the idea. However I'm voting no. This is a business venture that should be done privately. His team member Paola has solicited money from me in the discord which also IMO ads risk to chances of success for the proposal because I don't trust her.
This is one of those competitive markets and instead of trying to co-opt existing players we are proposing to roll are own. It doesn't make sense. Sorry.
Reply
3 points,4 years ago
Paola is already in the sector, and if I recall right, you wanted her in your DashQueen project and asked her to work for you, so her asking you for money is just soliciting back. There are plenty of cam performers in Venezuela and LATAM region that are already working.

And the webcam business IS competitive, that is why we are focused in carving out a niche instead of trying to take on the bigger websites, we are targeting users who want to use crypto first, especially Dash with its privacy fetaures.

For the record, I have supported my core team out of pocket when they need help, I don't expect DashCam staff to do work without compensation, I could not have worked out the revenue model without Paola's input.

To be clear, what I do with my personal crypto funds is my business, DashCam has a registered LLC and those funds will be segregated. DashCam is asking for launch funds, I am not asking for personal funds spent on the project, just what I have calculated we need for launch.

This sounds like a better plan and should be doable.
