Cross Post from here: https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/proposal-dash-to-adoption-100-businesses-in-100-days.10348/

John Bush here on the road with the Dash Across America Tour.  It’s been a fun ride so far and we have done a great deal of work promoting Dash to the crypto space and liberty community as well as the general public.  (See what we’ve accomplished so far by clicking this link.)

Our appreciation of Dash is growing and we were even recently shunned from the Las Vegas Bitcoin Meetup due to our support of this awesome crypto currency!  It has only driven us to further appreciate the value Dash has to offer as well as the community of excellent people around it.

We are deciding to dive in deeper with our promotion and support of Dash.

Below is a proposal for an exciting project that we think will do very well to further Dash as a major player on the crypto currency stage.  Vote yes today!

Proposal: Dash to Adoption - 100 Businesses in 100 Days

Over the course of the past several months my interest in Dash has grown considerably. Having researched the currency at great lengths, used it in my business life, and promoted it to the community at large, I feel the fundamentals are in place for this cryptocurrency to explode in growth.  This is basically already happening as you read this!

With innovations like InstantX and 2.5 minute block sizes along with a involved and growing community, I found myself wondering, why are there not more businesses accepting Dash?According to the Dash merchant map (https://mapme.com/dash-merchants), there are 60 businesses worldwide that accept Dash.  While this number is strong relative to other cryptocurrencies, with the value that Dash brings to the table and the recent growth in marketcap and community, it should be greater. In order to grow adoption and further the value and legitimacy of Dash, allow me to present......

Dash to Adoption: 100 Businesses in 100 Days

Vision: 100 more businesses accepting Dash as payment for their goods and/or services within 100 days

Mission: Reach out to businesses likely to adopt Dash, educate them on the value of Dash as a payment system, and assist them in setting up Dash as a payment gateway while working with the Dash Core Team to build Dash's payment processing applications and working with Dash merchants and customers to further the interests of the Dash business community

If this proposal passes, starting on September 15th and ending on Christmas Eve, December 24th, I will bring 100 businesses on as Dash accepting merchants.

This will increase the current number of Dash merchants by 166%!

Note: If we are not able to accomplish this goal within the allotted time frame, I will continue to build towards 100 businesses until I reach the goal.  I do however feel confident this goal is achievable in the allotted time frame.  The 100 days challenge will add a great deal of excitement, making it easier to bring merchants on board and allowing for more promotion to the general public.

In order to accomplish this goal, I will do the following:

GOAL: 100 BUSINESSES ACCEPTING DASH
COMPLETION DATE: September 16th - December 24th 2016

OBJECTIVE: Build and launch website or landing page explaining benefits of Dash merchant adoption, tracking progress, and sharing news about our campaign and Dash adoption in general
COMPLETION DATE: Launch on September 15th

OBJECTIVE: Work with Dash community to compile list of Dash users that are excited to spend Dash with new merchants. (this will help to build excitement and interest with potential merchants that are on the fence)
COMPLETION DATE: Begin work with community immediately with completion by September 15th

OBJECTIVE: Audit current list of Dash merchants and produce report on the state of Dash merchant adoption with statistics, trends, and an analysis of the tools and applications available to merchants
COMPLETION DATE: Before September 30th

OBJECTIVE: Add new businesses to Dash Merchant Directory and promote big-name businesses than come on board and milestones of the campaign
COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing throughout campaign

OBJECTIVE: Build long term relationship with merchants to ensure they are equipped to handle Dash payments in the present and in the future
COMPLETION DATE: During campaign and ongoing

OBJECTIVE: Launch the Dash Merchant Associate, a network of businesses, developers, and Dash users whose goal is to further the interests of the Dash merchant community and it’s patrons
COMPLETION DATE: Before September 30th

I plan on first targeting a few big names like CheapAir.com or eGifter while also starting with low hanging fruit.  Businesses that already accept bitcoin and businesses I am close with.  I will focus on Austin, TX and local liberty and crypto friendly businesses and also explore certain industries like cannabis retailers and companies that sell online privacy tools.

Overall, most businesses will likely be online merchants, followed by brick and mortars which I will target, and finally I will work hard to recruit large press worthy businesses. The Dash community will be able to monitor my progress via a business tracker on the landing page.  Additionally, I will post press releases, updates, and reports in the Dash Forum and will send to necessary people to publish through Dash social media channels.

Cost to the Dash Network:

1,000 Dash to be paid out over the course of three months (333.33 x 3) with the first payment being September 5th.

This equates to 10 Dash per business we sign up and includes the following:
 • marketing of the campaign and promotion of Dash as a valuable medium of exchange
 • publishing reports and auditing existing data
 • assisting developers by providing important information concerning what merchants need and expect to be successful in accepting cryptocurrencies
 • ongoing support to businesses we bring on board
 • facilitating the creation of the Dash Merchant Association
My skill set, experience with accepting crypto as a merchant, and esteemed reputation in the crypto business community make me an ideal person to get this job done and represent Dash in the way Dash deserves to be represented.I believe this investment will be an excellent value to the Dash community.

I am available to answer questions and am open to improving this proposal.

Thank you for your consideration,
John Bush

P.S. - I will blogging about my budget proposal and whole process on Steemit.  Should be exciting for those following along.  Check it out - https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@sovereignbtc/the-future-of-business-contracting-directly-with-the-dash-protocol-follow-my-progress

UPDATE ON THE DASH TO ADOPTION CAMPAIGN.......

Dash to Adoption is underway! Check out our page here: http://dashtoadoption.com

So far I have helped to setup 12 businesses with 8 more in the process of adding Dash bringing the total number of converted business to 20. It has taken me 44 days to do so. So that's 20% of my goal in 44% of the time which means I need to pick up the pace. I am working with my virtual assistant to compile large lists of prospects and will be contacting them all as well as reaching out to local businesses in the Austin area.

Tonight or tomorrow I will be sending out the Dash merchant survey to a list of 63 existing Dash merchants. In my emails I have also found more businesses that accept Dash that were not previously listed on any maps or listings. I will add them to the Dash Map and SpendDash.com.

I created a forum post that will serve as the beginnings of the Dash Merchant Association - https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/dash-merchant-association-where-merchants-users-activists-and-developers-organize-and-cooperate.11239/ Not much action yet but I will be invited all of the existing merchants to participate.

Head over to my update on t he Dash Forum to see some pictures from new merchants promoting the fact that they accept Dash.

as far as I get it they adopted six businesses and made a website:
http://spenddash.com/crypto-activists-aim-to-grow-dash-economy-by-bringing-on-100-new-merchants-in-100-days/

but these six businesses mostly do not mention DASH or show the logo on their sites - in some cases you must ask them by email if they accept.

Would be nice to create a proper site, where all the business are listed in one place and you would be allowed to order from that listing site. Or create an account and you can see only vendors that would be willing to ship to your location. Like America, EU, Australia, WorldWide- whatever. That would be amazing to have our own open bazar.

What's with the Evan Duffield quote above? You are making it look like Evan is endorsing your proposal, is this true? If not, this looks very shady. Please link to where he said this. Otherwise it just looks like a comment he made out of context.

Yes, he supports the proposal. This was not taken out of context. It was in reply to an email I sent him seeking feedback about the proposal.

I worry about the lack of trust in this community. Has there been a great deal of scams and let downs with Dash or is it just general mistrust in the crypto-world. I think a reputation verification system with a foundation in the Dash blockchain would do well to create more security and unity within the community. Something to consider.
Reply
1 point,7 years ago
it's crypto in general from my experience. also, it's intensified here as we have around a million dollar yearly budget that has to be protected.
if you are an investor in dash or potential investor the community's extra scrutiny is a good thing and shows our decentralized governance system is working as intended.

" I think a reputation verification system with a foundation in the Dash blockchain would do well to create more security and unity within the community. Something to consider."

it has been considered and is called dash evolution.
i fast forwarded to the reputation system part but this is a good video for all things evolution. amanda reads the dash evolution white paper....
Dash's Evolution: 'The One True Bitcoin as Satoshi Envisioned It'?
In light of Bitcoin Core's deviance from Bitcoin's whitepaper, many have wondered if Satoshi's vision is gone for good. A redditor claims that Dash's 'Evolution' -- a forthcoming upgrade -- has the right incentives and governance to achieve a "peer to peer electronic cash" system.

UPDATE: There have been many comments concerned that once a business is signed up, they will receive no Dash payments and will become disillusioned with Dash. That is a valid concern and this is how I plan to overcome it.

1. Encourage Dash community to come together, forming a group (through Slack, or Dash forum, or whatever platform works best) of Dash spenders. These are people who are committing to give all the new businesses that come on board an honest look and if they find something they are interested in they are likely to buy with Dash. A buyers club of sorts. If I am able to garner a decent size group of spenders, this will help when pitching Dash to new businesses.

2. Come Black Friday, assuming all the stars are aligned and this proposal passes, I will organize a "Dash Dark Friday" event whereby I will encourage Dash accepting businesses to submit a listing that includes a special deal if you do your holiday shopping with Dash. This will garner much media attention and will be a good way to bring together Dash businesses and Dash buyers. I may put together a small Dash proposal for funds to pay a webmaster and for advertisings Dash Dark Friday.

3. I will regularly promote through press releases, blog posts, and videos when we bring on new businesses. I will share this outreach directly with the Dash community hoping to spur some movement of Dash.

4. It has always been Catherine and my MO to encourage crypto enthusiasts to spend their coins so as to build the crypto eco system and add legitimacy to the currency. We have done this with bitcoin with much success for years and are excited to be doing the same with Dash.

That didn't work. Just follow this link to see a screenshot. Didn't think I'd have to prove this. Not a lot of trust here in the online crypto world. If I need to point this out, the sovbtc user account belongs to John Bush. I am a real person with a pretty good rep in the crypto community. Or content from the Dash Across America trip should be proof of my identity. Let it be known, if I say I am going to do something or post something as true, to the best of my knowledge it is. I will never try to deceive or cheat anyone in this community. If I come up short on something I commit to doing, I will be open and honest about it.

Hey, I didn't know that your bookstore was 1. Right across the street from the University of Texas, and reaches out to those students. Nor did I know 2. that your store hosts events spreading the word of crypto. Or that 3. You are all known to be very active in your community. Please don't assume we know about you all! It makes a big difference knowing what you do for the crypto community in voting yes on your proposals. I only know now because Catherine mentioned it in the meetup proposal. Then I did more research on ya'll. I'm voting yes because I believe you all are trustworthy, and that you will make a great meetup there at Brave New Books, and I hope we can get Evan and Amanda to go to it :) Good luck, I know it's a tight race to a final "Yes" but you have my support on both of these initiatives. I think your ability to reach out to other businesses is sound, and based on what I hear about you all, you are motivated. However, it would be good to see how the funds are being spent for your big bus tour, so that people understand the expense and why it costs so much. With this, you would get a lot more trust for future proposals :) Thanks for your work.

working with developers and core team members to further the development of applications and software that make it easier for merchants to accept Dash and customers to spend Dash (we already have proposals in the works for this, if you could hook up with these other teams and not waste time duplicating work, that would be good)

Normally i'm against multi-period budget proposals but this budget proposal does manage to peek my interest, so i'm gonna treat it as a 1 month trial budget proposal. Which means you will get my yes votes for the next superblock but you will have to earn my yes votes for the other two superblocks by giving feedback about your progress.

If i feel a lack of progress those yes votes will be switched to no votes (which is the beauty of our budget and governance system).

Seems like the cost is too high for what is almost guaranteed to be a case of over-promising and under-delivering. 14K seems like a sum that one would pay a professional promotion team to take on a campaign like this not a couple traveling on a bus. This goal would require more than a landing page and cold calling businesses. It also seems unlikely that you could convert one business a day to DASH when that kind of feat can't even be achieved with bitcoin which has huge name recognition. Then there is the question of whether converting merchants is even a desired goal in the immediate. Bitcoin pushed merchant adoption thru many legs of its start up and it largely resulted in merchant dissatisfaction with no customers leading to many to back out. With 60% of DASH collateralized in masternodes there is an even smaller number of people willing to use DASH in a consumer model right now. I vote no. Time should be spent attracting other crypto enthusiasts to discover the benefits of DASH and promoting the technology. Lets not waste time on merchants that will just convert there DASH to fiat and most likely be frustrated with the lack of interest. Let's find more people to invest in DASH first and sell the benefits of decentralized governance and crypto dividends. Evolution 2017 will be a much better time to promote merchant/consumer adoption.

John and Catherine are very active in their community (next to University of Texas) and have an excellent platform to work off of, including many business connections, students to mentor, and energy. I especially love John's idea here of creating a "Dash Business Association" and that John is committing himself to supporting any business who will accept Dash. This is a man on the ground, willing to help build the foundation Dash needs, IE places to buy things with your Dash! And Dash is uniquely appropriate for such a task due to instant X. But I agree with Quizzy, I will want to see how these funds are spent in a report. I'd like an accounting of how many hours are spent on this work (not during the bus tour, because that's already paid for) but separately from the bus tour. I would assume a lot of these funds will be given away to help set businesses up, or for promotional materials, etc... But I am not adverse to John taking a salary. This shit gets complex and very hard to judge for me. But I say, lets give 'em a try.

I feel confident the goal is attainable. I dont see it as one biz a day. There are many hours in a day and many opportunities in a day. There are pre existing relationships and leads which are already warm, like CheapAir for example. There will be minimal cold contacts. I have deep ties with the liberty and crypto community and many of whom are already on board with bitcoin and many are already familiar with Dash. Also, by making a big splash and offering cross promotional PR with participating businesses, I think a chunk of the new merchants will come to us!

Regarding a firm being able to do the same job for equal pay and with the same output, i dont think thats the case. The amount of effort and the different pieces of this project may cost an arm and a leg for a marketing firm to execute. Its not just a couple travelling in a bus. We outsource when needed to virtual adsistants, contract labor, or volunteers. With our combined two decades of experience with marketing and organzing, we practically are a firm, only we live what we are promoting and we dont wear suits! Often times grassroots elbow grease is the best way to get things done.

Good point when u say not many are spending dash and we need to reach out to crypro types. To this I reply its kind of like the chicken and the egg scenario. Perhaps there is smaller spending because there arent many places to spend? Also, think of this as a great big PR push. What better way to draw in crypto enthusaiasts then by getting our currency in there face with earned media and showing them how smooth and simple it is to spend Dash to get their favorite things?
Reply

People have to have Dash first before they spend it. You're putting the cart before the horse. You aren't attracting crypto enthusiasts, you are attracting business owners who want a different way to accept people's cash. The Dash will be converted to USD bc their suppliers do not take Dash. Plus you know people in the "liberty movement". Great well they probably are familiar with crypto and would have considered Dash already. Your asking for the network to spend a lot of money on something unnecessary then. Plus where is the accountability built into this proposal? If you accomplish some benchmarks maybe but seems like people will never know what you actually did or didn't do with the money.

As far as transparency and accountability, I will be blogging about my efforts and tracking milestones via a website, social media, and press releases. I am accountable to the community in that my reputation is one the line. There is a person many people know behind my handle sovereignbtc and it is not in my interest to swindle the Dash protocol.
Reply

What is the intended website where the milestones will be posted? Will you also post the metrics to the places where folks in the Dash ecosystem already communicate, such as Dash.org/Forum, reddit.com/r/DashPay and dash_chat on Slack?

I appreciate your concerns. I see it like this - if you build it, they will come. By embarking on this campaign, we will be putting Dash in the spotlight, showing crypto peeps and liberty peeps that here is a kick ass privacy based currency that you can use to buy all sorts of cool stuff. Many people counter my bitcoin pitches with, "cool, but where can I spend it" to which Im able to give a solid reply. This will enhance our outreach to people by giving them solid places to use this currency. I will be working to find vendors and suppliers that will accept Dash so businesses can expend Dash too. One part of my mission will be to reach out to suppliers for cannabis tools and packaging then reach out to dispensaries and let them know there are places they can spend their Dash. I have great contacts with the Colorado crypto community and can help to spur some Dash spending in that area.

Thank you for submitting this proposal. I appreciate your positive energy. To my opinion, there is no bad proposal, except a DASH proposal, that never got funded while funds were still available. If funds are tight, one has to be more picky. The tiny dilution resulting from funds beeing created by the budget system is always outcompeted by the positive effects almost any DASH related proposal brings to the table.

This proposal is quite early, however even if only a 5-10 online retailers are conviced to integrate DASH, it would be worth. Which DASH payment processing software will you recommend a) online shops b) local, physical stores?
Reply
0 points,7 years ago
I will be testing the various options through my own store, both in person and online. For brick and mortars who are okay with accepting Dash independently of their existing POS, I will simply recommend the Jaxx App. It seems to be the best tablet or mobile app out there. I had issues with the main Dash wallet on Android. For those looking to integrate with POS online with WooCommerce, WordPress, or Shopify, I want to try out CointoPay. Will integrate it with my online store through Shopify and work with some friendlies to test out with other platforms. Do you have experience with any of the options? I'll need feedback and support from the community. Hence the creation of the Dash Merchant Association, a venue for us to help one another and help Dash grow.

Why not reduce the budget to 100 Dash, start with adopt 20 businesses.. You can approach the low hanging fruit and businesses you think will adopt then start to expand. I would like to see how this goes initially before throwing more money at it.

I can appreciate your perspective. I feel like going big right off the bat is the way to go on this one. It is the challenge of 100 businesses that will create the buzz necessary to make it happen. Im hoping the excitement will encourage businesses to sign up and be a part of the campaign. Will be doing cross promoting and joint media releases to make this happen.

I'd appreciate you talking with me, John Bush, the owner of this proposal before making such baseless accusations. I am excited about Dash and my time and energy is extremely valuable. To consider this feat easy money fails to recognize all the work that will go in to accomplishing this goal. Im sorry you feel that way. I can assure you and the rest of the community, this is not the case.

I don't doubt your energy, but it would be most impressive if you could get small stores like yours to accept Dash. It would also be awesome if our community could help set them up, and if these businesses could (anonymously if need be) share the numbers of customers they've received. The selling points would mostly be that they will have an opportunity to sample the future of commerce (and possibly start their own crypto savings) InstantX lends itself so well to brick and mortar stores, so I would love to see more of them rather than online merchants. So if you can talk little bakeries, coffee shops, mini marts, etc... to accept Dash, THAT would be impressive.

I will expend considerable energies trying to convert brick and mortar shops. I think I will have success with this in Austin and by reaching out to friends and people involved with the liberty/crypto community. I will also reach out to the Dash community looking for leads.

We don't have merchant-geared software yet. And even if we did, the businesses encountered on this three month effort will likely not have any customers paying in Dash. So, as others have mentioned, they'll get soured on Dash before it even gets chance to take off, just like happened with so many merchants who took a chance on Bitcoin.

All this aside, if this proposal were for a more reasonable amount (like ~$1500/month), I may have voted yes in spite of my qualms.

Great points. There are some choices out there like CointoPay and Coinpayments I will be testing out and reporting on. For brick and mortars, Jaxx on a tablet will suffice. Part of my mission is to fill in gaps and further understand what is needed for MASS adoption. Plus, when Evolution is ready to roll out, we will have a list of 100 businesses to work with in upgrading their setup. As far as spending Dash, if this proposal is successful I will be organizing a group of Dash users and encouraging them to spend with our merchants. While purchases may not be sustained for all the consumers, some businesses will pick up life time customers. As Dash continues to grow, so too will sales for these new merchants. I won't be promising the world and will be targeting businesses that are already on board with crypto, plus some non crpyto businesses that I think would be a good fit.

Regarding the amount being asked, this is the amount needed to buy time to focus on this effort and make it a success. In addition to on-boarding the businesses I will be providing them with support, putting out PR and marketing, and organizing a Dash Merchant Association.

cross post....
great proposal but a bit pricey and too early imo.

here's the two things i would need for it to get my votes...
" Plus, when Evolution is ready to roll out, we will have a list of 100 businesses to work with in upgrading their setup."

1. lol, that was actually one of the things i was going to suggest. a follow up with each business after evolution is released.

2. i also agree with the user or users that were concerned that no one would use it and the business owner would get bummed out and think he wasted his time.
i see this as a real possibility but an easy fix would be to set aside 1 dash for every business you sign up. that way you can demonstrate instantsend and they would be getting paid for their time. we get a new dash owner/member/investor plus a business accepting dash.
maybe give them .75 dash the first time and then give them .25 after the evo release. they will be much more willing to pick up the phone when it comes time to update to evo. plus, it should make it easier for you to get them on the phone in the first place by telling them you want to give them some free digital cash.

p.s. not sure why you included the 2.5 min block time that was invented (if you want to call it that) by litecoin and is not that big of a deal for us.
our main features are instantsend, privatesend, masternode payments, decentralized governance, treasury funding and future DAO's. EVO will add a lot more.

p.p.s you may want to note if the businesses you reach out to would be interesting in hosting a dash/btc atm as it looks like a dash DAO is going into the atm business.

Thanks for your feedback.

On point 2. my plan is to organize a list of Dash users that are interested in spending Dash with new merchants we recruit as part of the Dash to Adoption Campaign. I can then let the potential adopters know that if they come on board I have X number of Dash users that have committed to giving their business a look and possibly spending some Dash with them. I will personally set some of the monies aside to do business with some of the vendors. In do this I am hoping to generate some interest, add some incentive for signing up, and hopefully create some long term economic relationships should Dash users find that one of their regular expenses is now attainable with Dash.

we need to have business partnerships with large scale online businesses that can scale via their own user base... Spending 4k to go find business one by one is a waste of resources, its like going back to mailing flyers..

I agree that we need to reach large scale online businesses. I have verbal interest from Jeff Kleex the CEO of cheapair.com. They are a major player in the online travel agent market. Quality and quantity will be key to this campaigns success.

the thing is that its not about acceptance for buying things.... its about getting the currency units into the hands of day to day users as a store of value or medium of exchange... Who is cheapair going to receive payments in dash from? Us? High percentage of Dash is in MN.... We need projects that get the currency used in exchange by real users (where they value holding the currency) for the weekly interest payments, then u can use it as an exchange. We need communities to use us a store of value first... Otherwise the only people buying plane tickets or what have u is us MN owners... Dash is essentially the decentralized equivalent of a bank where u earn interest on ur deposits even while u control them... Bitcoin is the equivalent of gold, it just is, it exists... Bitcoin could solidifiy as is and still be very valuable, its a digit on a screen and cant be increased past the initial agreed upon amount... Dash should be able to add value add services to compete with bitcoin, thats the differentiator
