Proposal description

Full name:
Jared Matthew Lyman

Social media handles:
Discord: @J.M.L.

How long have you been actively involved with Dash and the Dash community and in what ways have you helped the network previously?

I first got involved with Dash in 2014. For the past several months I have been serving as a Dash Trust Protector.

What made you decide to apply for the Supervisor role?

I would like to use my business acumen and investing skills to help the Dash network by making sound investments on behalf of the Dash network through the DIF.

What skills, attributes, and or relevant background / experience make you a good fit for the DIF Supervisor role, and why should MNOs vote for you?

After I earned a bachelors' degree in economics, I started a successful business. I have also studied investing and trading extensively.

Any additional information or statements?

If elected, I will do my best to improve communication from the DIF to the Dash network and make sound investments that will add value to the Dash network.

General Election Info

As announced in our recent blog post, we are asking for community input on four candidates for DIF supervisor:

Jarednew candidate
Justinnew candidate
Rodrigocurrent supervisor up for re-election
Svencurrent supervisor up for re-election

The DIF normally has six supervisors, who are elected for one or two-year terms as explained in our post here. Of the supervisors originally elected to two-year terms, Darren and Glenn chose not to extend for another year and resigned in 2022. That leaves five seats available, for which we have only four candidates.

That means at least one seat, perhaps more, will remain unfilled. This is unfortunate, but also not a showstopper for the DIF. We are legally able to fully function with fewer than six supervisors.

So we're asking the community to carefully consider the four candidates based on their merit, not on the need to fill slots. Please vote YES or NO. Any candidate with more Yes than No votes will become supervisor, candidates with a negative balance or a tie will not.  The 10% threshold for funding proposals does not apply to confirming candidates. ABSTAIN votes have no effect on the tally, they're essentially wasted.

The payout address used for this proposal is the regular DIF budget address as can be confirmed in any block explorer. We are asking for 2 Dash in each election proposal in the hope that the reimbursement from candidates with enough Yes votes will cover the proposal fee for candidates with insufficient Yes votes. Should the election end up with a net funding surplus, the DIF will retain it in its general budget. Likewise, should the election not generate enough funding for fee reimbursements, the DIF will cover the expense, so no candidate has any personal financial benefit or loss from the election.

Jared has been very faithful in his work as Trust Protector. He shows up. He does the work he commits to (and then some.) He knows a lot about Dash and has been involved for a very long time. Thoughtful, articulate, involved in Dash for all the right reasons. Easy yes for me.

Do you see any issues in the investments the DIF made in the past? If so, what would you have done differently?

Another question: How do you see yourself improving the DIF? Are there any types of investments that you prefer over other types?

What's gotten into you? You are so grumpy these days! Cheer up!

Ha, not in the slightest, things are going well actually. But grumpy with dash, yes that's true. For as long as the old guard sticks around across various groups, dash will go nowhere.

I mean, sure, I could foresee a good pump and I have no problem trading dash or blowing it on proposals that you will consider solutions without problems. Just to prove how impudent the project is right now.

I'm not that interested in projects that aren't sufficiently distributed and decentralized. Dash is not interested in regaining the 5000 nodes it used to have, instead opting for 100 high spec nodes. If I wanted that I could of just gone with Solana et al.

And you know what, there are plenty of people out there who will tell you that 5000 nodes is more than enough, but I disagree for a bunch of reasons. Free markets don't place upper limit caps.

High spec nodes means less direct integrations because in a multi-chain world, there are few truly decentralized networks capable of hosting those chains. If you think dash does not need direct integrations then good luck to ya, but imo a fancy API is not going to cut it.

There are s bunch of other projects now that do usernames, better governance, better privacy, better marketing, and even Platform alternatives that Sam is happy to trash.

This proposal is for Jared's application to the DIF though, don't take out these bad feelings about Dash on him. He has my support for the DIF. The points you make about the nodes we can address in the forum - again, but in brief I don't share your views. The reasoning for running Platform on a subset of the network makes sense to me.
