Proposal description

This is a cross post from the Dash Forum

This is a continuation of the marketing budget started in July https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/proposal-marketing-international-outreach-promotion.9218/

This marketing budget proposal will provide continued funding for our language translators, funding for translating our wiki and videos, and is supporting marketing sponsorships in Brazil and now China as well. The language translators translate a massive amount of material on a monthly basis, including relevant news articles, videos (voiceover and subtitles), web pages, and local wikis. In addition, these individuals post materials to local chat groups and social media. The four main languages covered are Russian, Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Translators are compensated with tips based on the volume of material and other outreach they perform for the community. We have been running the program for about a year and it is effective at increasing our international exposure.

The requested amount is expected to be an ongoing need to maintain these translation services, international media, and promotion efforts.

Requested funding is as follows for the October 5th budget cycle:
  • 191.45 Dash for ongoing language translation ($2,200 USD @ $11.491 per Dash based on September 19th average rate at https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/price-dash.html)
  • 34.81 Dash to begin funding wiki and video translations ($400 USD)
  • 5.00 Dash proposal reimbursement
Total: 231.26 Dash

Note: Should any funding remain after the project is complete, we will reserve those funds for future marketing projects.

Voting no, and here's why:

The explanations around how this money is spent (from tungfa) always seem haphazard and hazy. Tungfa's most recent (and only) report is astoundingly long, difficult to understand, and leaves me with the feeling of "What did I just read?"

In fact, I found myself wishing tungfa had used an English translator himself to make his report more comprehensible.

I support the translations being done, but I'd like someone else in charge of them. Someone who will post the exact URLs of work done in an organized, easy-to-read manner. For example, how can I share the Spanish translations (assuming we have them) with my Spanish-speaking friends if I don't even know where they are or when they're published?

What have these translators translated in the past 4 weeks? And how much are we paying these guys? Seems like a hefty sum of cash floating around for translations lately.
